My felted vessels are made from wool grown on Uist crofts. Most of my large vessels, up to 600 mm high, are wet felted and often formed around found objects such as old buoys.
I like to work in families. The boulder series were resist-felted using blended Hebridean and Blackface fleece.

And enjoy combining wild mosses, grasses and flowers in my work. Flag iris and sea pinks, fluffy seed heads from bog cotton and peat-loving plants from the moor are my favourites. I am also learning to dye fleece with Scottish lichen, known as ‘crottal’.
I make memorial vessels to celebrate life, past and present. These works used yarn-over from Harris weavers celebrating land and sea.

Vessels can also be for keeping treasures and collections safe.

I welcome bespoke commissions. Please allow at least 2 weeks for making time from date of commission. Please email me on rebecca@rebeccacottonstudio.com or fill in the contact form.
